Ready Nevada County is a wildfire preparedness campaign designed to help residents understand risk, take practical action, and access trusted emergency preparedness resources. I developed the campaign identity and outreach materials to make urgent public safety information feel clear, approachable, and easy to use across print, digital, and community-facing channels.
CHALLENGE
Nevada County needed a recognizable, flexible campaign identity to support wildfire preparedness outreach across a broad rural community. The materials had to communicate serious public safety information while remaining accessible, actionable, and visually consistent across departments, channels, and audiences.
The challenge was to create a system that could carry urgent information clearly — from evacuation preparedness to defensible space education — while giving County staff tools they could continue using beyond a single campaign push.
APPROACH
I led the development of a campaign identity system designed to make wildfire preparedness information easier to recognize, understand, and act on. The visual direction balanced urgency with approachability, using bold typography, practical iconography, and modular layouts that could adapt across print, digital, social, and community outreach materials.

The goal was to create a campaign foundation that could scale over time and be translated for a diverse set of needs — from public events and seasonal reminders to emergency preparedness resources and department-led communications.

The system was translated into preparedness guides, handouts, social media graphics, event materials, and reusable templates, giving the County a consistent visual toolkit for ongoing wildfire readiness communications.

Ready, Set, Go! Handbook
Created by the Nevada County Office of Emergency Services in collaboration with partner agencies, the guide serves as a tool for wildfire safety and emergency preparedness. The handbook is mailed to every Nevada County resident.
